Things you don't say....

After being natural for almost 9 months, I have heard many things that I think are just wrong to say or do to someone with natural hair. Here is my short list of pet peeves:

  1. "Is your hair dry? Or Why is your hair so dry?"
  2. "Your hair is nappy"
  3. "Oh you have "good" hair or "bad" hair"
  4. Don't touch my hair - period.
  5. "You need to put some products in your hair"
  6. "I don't like that style"
  7. "Oh, you hair is ok - but I've seen you look better"
  8. "That style is...interesting"
  9. "You should straighten your hair"
  10. "Do you comb/brush your hair?"
The natural journey is not an easy one; whether you transition or big chop you have to learn your natural hair. There is a lot of trial and error but one thing that is never enough is the support from family and friends as we go through this journey. Be mindful - if you don't have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself. Often times, newly naturals are trying to find ways to style their TWA and work with what they have - stating your negative opinion does no one any good. That's my vent... new hairstyles will be posted soon...
